Twitter Lists
Dec11

Twitter has added a new feature – lists. The lists are a great way for you to organize the people you follow into personalized lists. The people on your lists are all people you want to follow that share something in common. You select a name for the list and decide who is on the list. A list can be a seemingly random group of people or a specific subset of the people you follow. A list can have one Twitter account on it or thousands of Twitter accounts depending on your intentions.

Once you create the list you can decide if it is a public or private list. When a list is public other people can start following that list also. If it is private only you can view or follow your list.

Lists help you organize the tweets you read and they are a new way to find new leaders in your field. If you follow someone else’s list they might have Twitter accounts on their list that you have never heard of. Now you can start following these people too.

Just like you can put anyone you follow on a list the people that follow you can put you on a list that they create. If you look on the right hand side of your Twitter homepage you will see the number of people you are following, the number of followers you have and the number of lists you are on.

I have created a list of all of the GMT member Twitter accounts. I use the list as a way to help me to know what our members are working on right now. You can take advantage of this tool by following this list for you can see what each other are doing and potentially learn what works and what doesn’t work from each other.
