Senior Online Applications Developer – Netcentric Campaigns
Location: Washington, D.C.
Description:
Netcentric Campaigns is a division of Green Media Toolshed, specializing in implementation of online networking strategies for advocacy. Netcentric Campaigns provides training in online networking strategy, network assessments and scanning of online activity, consultation on online campaigns, and customized online networking tools and services. Current clients include the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Voices for America's Children.
Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will have experience managing development projects of web-enabled CRM systems (ideally Salesforce), as well as with a variety of other online and mobile based applications (such as Drupal, Google maps API, Vertical Response, Mobile Commons, etc). They will also be experienced with data driven e-mail outreach strategies, integration with other databases (such as Catalist), partner data sharing arrangements, and integration with other applications for collecting data (widgets and with other user databases).
The candidate will have solid technical skills and a strong background in databases as well as stellar project management, customer service, problem-solving and analytical skills. She or he will have a solid understanding of the principles of database design, data analysis, and of user interface design. She or he will show evidence of business awareness and a core understanding of the business requirements of software design and development. They will work well within a team to facilitate the development of an emerging online community while providing instructional technology support and a superior customer service experience.
The Senior Online Applications Developer will be organized and will thrive in the fast-paced tempo of an online campaign. He or she will successfully balance the management of internal staff, clients, and vendors and will be enthusiastic, diplomatic, determined and quick witted. The Senior Online Applications Developer will also adapt well to a small but growing team and will bring along a blend of technical curiosity, professional courtesy, and flexibility.
The Senior Online Applications Developer will report to the Director of Internet Strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the development of data-driven applications
- Based on user needs identified by Director of Internet Strategy, develop application requirements for data visualizations, e-mail outreach applications, partner data sharing arrangements, real-time integration with online widgets and user databases to collect and enhance data, and other applications as they emerge.
- Evaluate vendor development proposals and budgets.
- Oversee vendor development work to assure contract deliverables are completed within budget and agreed timelines.
- Guide development of user interfaces.
- Coordinate and conduct user testing prior to launch and through any beta testing.
- Translate and report bugs during initial development process so that product is ready for launch.
Database and application management and reporting
- Ensure that data collected and shared by partners and/or generated by network activity is being stored accurately and utilized effectively in database and other online applications.
- Use best practices to clean data and enhance data accuracy.
- Create clean, visually pleasing, and presentable reports, highlighting trends in data.
- Analyze and report on network contact data growth and other data trends to clients and network leaders.
- Monitor vendor service performance and review vendor invoices for payment based on performance.
Training and customer support
- Work with Director of Internet Strategy and vendors to implement a high-touch customer experience process to ensure community members receive a superior level of support.
- Support and train other staff in targeting and generating communications from the network contact database.
- Generate metrics for project assessments and reports.
- Track and submit bugs from users; work with vendors to resolve.
- Develop documentation of database architecture and data-driven applications. .
Contribute to organizational growth and development
- Advise team on opportunities for new application development based on trends identified in current use of system, recommendations from vendors, and feedback from online community.
- Provide coaching to fellow staff members to improve organizational knowledge about best practices in data management.
- Keep current with developments in new technology.
Requirements:
- 7-10 years of experience in database engineering, application service provider management, database management, or related field.
- Proven track record of working with a team through the entire software development cycle.
- Extensive experience and programming abilities in managing large scale Salesforce applications, including integration with online data visualizations and other applications.
- Experience integrating data from multiple sources.
- Experience with creating clear and presentable visualizations from massive data sets.
- Experience training and providing customer support to users.
- Proven ability to manage vendors and support staff
- Have an extensive professional network including experts in database design and management.
- Superb communication, teamwork and negotiation skills.
- College degree.
Additional desired qualifications:
- Masters degree in Database Management, Information Technology, or Computer Science or equivalent on the job learning.
- Experience with quantitative methods of data analysis.
- Experience working in a campaign environment or with a nonprofit organization.
- Experience in managing a voter or membership database and associated communications for at least 100,000 records.
- Experience in online e-mail marketing campaigns including A/B testing and using data to micro-target.
- Knowledge of or experience working on issues related to tax, health, environment, community justice, or anything else related to childhood obesity.
Compensation:
This is a senior level position with a salary range of $80,000 - $90,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits package.
